I’m Tessa Nicholson. I am a Holistic Nutritionist, a Certified Metabolic® Balance Coach and founder of the community based Healthy Living Club. I have always believed in the power of food and it’s role in maintaining vibrant health, but also in reclaiming one’s health. Yes, really, food choices matter to your health! With that in mind, I provide professional nutrition services for people who want to gain control of their health. How I help is through education and reliable information that gives you the power and confidence to make choices based on your unique situation, health goals and challenges.
Many of us have lost our way when it comes to our food choices.
It happened to me when my eating habits were influenced by the fast food culture. I had no idea what was happening to me. I had become so far removed from my body’s natural rhythms that I lost touch with my natural inclinations when it came to hunger and satiety. You can read more about my story here.
I returned to my cultural roots which helped me to reconnect with food and my intuitive responses when it came to food.
I love food, I love to eat, I love to cook and I love the way good, healthy food makes me feel! I grew up in a Greek Cypriot household, eating what is now known as the Mediterranean Diet. Food was fun, delicious and full of passion and drama. Meal times were like theatre! Okay, it may not be quite that way in my life now, but I continue to delight in the food experience and in particular when I see the positive impact it has on the people in my life including clients. I am very grateful for that experience because I was headed down a very strange path when it came to my ideas about food and health.
I deeply wanted to understand why and how foods worked in the body to promote health and wellness so I decided to study the science of food and how nutrients effect human health. I wanted to understand the mechanisms at work, and though I have learned (and continue to learn) a tremendous amount, I realize that feeling one’s best is a combination of many different things and high quality, healthy food is the foundation.
I am now very fortunate to live in a part of Canada where fresh, local foods are abundant. I enjoy this abundance with great enthusiasm, I eat all types of whole food, simply prepared to allow the full value of the food’s nutrition to work its magic, to sustain and nourish me.
Combining my passion for food and my extensive, and continuous, nutrition studies, I help individuals make optimum nutrition choices based on their unique health goals and lifestyle. What I do best is educate, provide clarity and give some practical meaning to the maze of information and misinformation that comes at us on at daily basis.
